NAPA Auto Parts and Jett Johnson Super3 Series Contender Reveal!

Jett Johnson has taken the next step in his motorsport career and will compete in the Dunlop Super3 Series with the backing of NAPA Auto Parts.

The deal is a continuation of the successful partnership between third-generation star racer Johnson and NAPA Auto Parts that saw Jett win the TA2 Muscle Car Series, plus score podium results in the National Trans Am Series last year.

Johnson, the son of Steven Johnson and grandson to Supercars Hall of Fame Dick Johnson, will drive the #117 NAPA Auto Parts Nissan Altima in association with another famous motorsport family, Kelly Racing.

Johnson joins Mason Kelly, son of former Bathurst 1000 winner Todd, in Nissan Altimas.

Originally slated to contest the 2023 National Trans Am Series, both Johnson and NAPA Auto Parts felt that the time was right for Johnson to make the step into the Dunlop Super3 Series – the first official step towards a career in the Repco Supercars Championship.

While still just 17 years old, Johnson’s life has been surrounded by racing cars, and says that his wait to race a Supercar is finally over.

“I’m super excited to confirm that I’ll be with NAPA Auto Parts in the Dunlop Super3 Series this year,” said Johnson.

“I can’t believe this is the year I get to start my Supercars career. Being around Supercars with Dad and Grandpa all my life, I feel the time is right. I’m nervous but really excited so I can’t wait to get into it at Newcastle”

“It’s been great running in TA2 and Trans Am. I’ve really enjoyed the category so much. We won the title in TA2 last year and picked up podiums in Trans Am, but with the way that things have worked out, it was time for me to take the step into Super3 and hopefully continue my career forwards.

“It’s really cool to have the NAPA Auto Parts and the NAPA Motorsport Academy onboard for my first Supercars season. NAPA has been a tremendous supporter of ours and its great that we get the chance to continue to continue to progress up the ranks together.”

The Dunlop Super3 Series will be hotly-contested in 2023, with the cars that formerly raced in Super2 now eligible for Super3.

The influx of new machinery has opened many avenues for new talent, like Johnson, to get their chance in the development category.

And all drivers will be aiming to emulate the feats of past champions like Jack Smith, Tyler Everingham, Broc Feeney, Nash Morris and Brad Vaughan who have all continued their rise through the Supercars ranks.

NAPA Auto Parts Head of Sponsorship Mitch Wiley says that Johnson is the perfect choice to represent NAPA in the development motorsport class.

“The team at NAPA are all behind Jett, and we can’t wait to be part of the next chapter of his career,” said Wiley.

“Jett is an outstanding young ambassador for our brand and we look forward to seeing his progression.

“The Super3 Series is a great fit for both Jett and NAPA too. Both are emerging forces in their space and it’s great to see the partnership continue.”

The Newcastle street race event kick starts the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship, with practice to be held on Friday March 10, followed by qualifying and racing on Saturday and Sunday.

All Super3 qualifying and race sessions will be broadcast live on Fox and Kayo.
